Leon E. Panetta Archive
A Resource for Scholars
When Institute co-founder Leon E. Panetta returned to California from Washington in 1997, he brought with him a large and diverse collection of artifacts documenting his time as a member of Congress, chairman of the House Budget Committee, director of the Office of Management and Budget, and White House Chief of Staff for President Clinton. This material now forms the Leon E. Panetta Archive.
With more than 725 cubic feet of records, the Archive contains detailed material on the federal budget process, immigration policy, agricultural policy, national service legislation, environmental policy, including the establishment of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and the workings of a congressional office and the White House, to name some.
Access to the Leon E. Panetta Archive is reserved for approved applicants and is granted for on-site work. The Institute reserves the authority to evaluate and determine approval and rejection of applications for access. Reference requests are subject to available archive content.
Access is reserved to researchers who fall under the following groups: college and university faculty; participants in the Panetta Institute Policy Research Fellows Program; graduate students; and scholars, journalists and authors.
